about my pottery

I build by hand, enjoying the feel and texture of various clays and the challenges they present when making and experimenting.

With hand building, using pinching, coiling and slabs, the possibilities for new forms are endless.

I give rein to imagination, sketching out new ideas in workbooks and then allowing the clay to further lead into various permutations on a theme.  I then put a great deal of thought into selecting appropriate glazes and oxides to enhance the form and the message.

My pieces vary between domestic ware, such as vases and bowls, and light-hearted sculptural work, particularly with a bird theme.

Working at Bethlehem Pottery weekly on club day with fellow potters, and in my Studio/Gallery in Matua, Tauranga, there are many opportunities for me to follow up and focus on new exciting ideas.

I also paint - please see the later section.
